Week of the Young Child 2010 Children's Festival


Over 700 attendees romped through the Perquimans County Recreation Center's huge complex participating in activities ranging from train and pony rides, face painting, to a fishing competition. 

Special visitors to the event included Smokey the Bear and The Cat in the Hat.

Before playing, families went through at least five of our educational and safety instruction booths that were provided by local businesses and county and state organizations. 

The booths included: 

              Child Car Seat Checks and Bike Safety - Safe Kids of Chowan County                                Boat Safety - North Carolina Wildlife Resources

            Electrical Safety - Albemarle Electric Membership Corporation                                        Pet Education & Adoption - Tri-County Animal Shelter

            Identification Kit - Perquimans County Sheriff's Department                                          Wildlife Identification & Education - Merchant Millpond State Park 

                                       Fire and Rescue Information - Perquimans County Volunteer Fire Department & Emergency Medical Services Department
